Sep 27, 2016 In the month of October, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art invites visitors to participate in an interactive art movement, enjoy a piano dedication concert, celebrate the opening of The Art of American Dance, and attend artinfusion’s annual Halloween in the Hollow party. On October 4 and 5, the international art movement, The Truth Booth, is coming to Lawrence Plaza in downtown Bentonville. An interactive artwork, the inflatable video recording booth allows participants to record their own version of the statement beginning, “The Truth is…” The Truth Booth is part of In Search of the Truth by The Cause Collective. In collaboration with the Cliburn, the Olga Kerns Dedication Concert showcases a grand piano formerly belonging to pianist Val Cliburn that was gifted to the Museum. The concert is on October 9 and will be performed by the renowned Russian-American pianist, Olga Kern. Shaking Hands and Kissing Babies: The Road to the White House, is on display through January 9, 2017, from the Museum of Democracy, The Wright Family Collection. The exhibition examines the history and power of visual advertising in political campaigns of American leaders from George Washington to Barack Obama. Featuring more than 40 campaign items such as buttons, flags, posters, and novelty items, the exhibition underlines the powerful role of mass-market campaign advertising in American elections. This diverse collection of objects reminds us that election messaging, mudslinging, and catchy slogans are as American as apple pie. Sponsored by Randy and Valorie Lawson/Lawco Energy Group. High-res press images are available for download HERE. The Art of American Dance is the first major traveling exhibition to explore American visual art related to the many forms of dance. The exhibition features 90 works by iconic and wide-ranging artists such as John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Nick Cave, and Faith Ringgold and examines dance-inspired paintings, prints, sculptures, and photographs from the 1830s to the recent past. These works are inspired by dance in Native American cultures to ballroom dancing, to Jitterbug, swing, modern dance, and others. Crystal Bridges is thrilled to house this exhibition from October 22, 2016 to January 16, 2017. In conjunction with The Art of American Dance, Crystal Bridges brings an exciting selection of dance companies, choreographers, and filmmakers to the museum, adding to the experience of the artwork and sharing new insights in visual art and dance.
