Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art presents Chihuly: In the Gallery and In the Forest

June brings new life to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art with the opening of an indoor-outdoor exhibition and new concert series, a day-long celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th birthday, summer camps, and much more!

Memorial Day through Labor Day, the galleries open at 10 a.m. The museum is extending evening hours Wednesdays through Fridays until 10 p.m. so visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy the outdoor Chihuly exhibition after dark.

Chihuly: In the Gallery and In the Forest, by the American sculptor Dale Chihuly, is now on view in the gallery and along the newly enhanced North Forest Trail. The dual exhibition highlight Chihuly’s long career and showcases his newest projects in a museum-wide experience of light, color, and masterful forms. In the newly enhanced forest, Chihuly Saturday Nights features live music, artmaking and fun all summer. See the full lineup.

Architecture lovers will enjoy a celebration of Frank Lloyd Wrights’ 150th birthday with a full day of activities on June 8 at the Bachman-Wilson House. A lecture on June 22 with founder of Selldorf Architects in New York, Annabelle Selldorf, will present innovative approaches to the architecture in museums and gallery spaces.

Celebrate dad with artmaking, music, and more at a free Family Sunday on June 18, and encourage the kids to explore their creativity at one of the manySummer Camp options offered by the museum for all ages.

Adult Mini Workshops » Sculpture

Wednesday, June 7, 14, 21, and 28, July 5 and 12, 6 to 8:30 pm

Led by artist Benjamin Cirgin, visitors will create a small-scale three-dimensional landscape sculpture using a reductive method of carving and cleaving raw clay. Participants will spend time studying the Crystal Bridges landscape as it merges with the temporary exhibition Chihuly: In the Gallery and In the Forest.  Each sculptor will have the opportunity to cover their work with colored glaze, resulting in a fused, pure glass finish. Projects will be fired off site and available for pickup at the museum two weeks after the workshop. $45 ($36 for Members) per session. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Birthday at Crystal Bridges

Celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday with a visit to the Bachman-Wilson House!

Figure Drawing from the Nude Model

Wednesday, June 14 and 28, 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Join us on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month for this adult figure drawing class from a nude model. A variety of materials will be provided, and model poses will include both shorter warm-up poses, and longer poses. Participants must be 18 or older. (Note: Figure Drawing sessions with a clothed model are offered on the first and third Mondays of each month, and are open to participants ages 14 and up.) $10 ($5 for Members), register online or with Guest Services.

Enjoy the unique opportunity to travel between two museums for a one-of-a-kind summer camp experience hosted by the Scott Family Amazeum and Crystal Bridges! Does your imagination run wild? Spend half of each day in the Amazeum, investigating how you view the world in weird and wonderful ways using curiosity, creativity, and ingenuity. Adult Mini Workshop » Margaret Warren

Led by artist Margaret Warren, who currently teaches ceramics at National Park College in Hot Springs. Participants will work with fired clay to create elegant fluted bowls and saucers that imitate similar shapes created in glassblowing. Each student will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of glaze colors and to add glass chips to the center of their bowls, creating a unique blend of colors. Projects will be fired off site and available for pickup at the museum two weeks after the workshop. $45 ($36 for Members) per session. Founder of the New York firm Selldorf Architects, Annabelle Selldorf presents a discussion on architecture and design in this Spotlight Talk. Selldorf will provide a unique look at how the firm has taken innovative approaches to the architecture in museum and gallery spaces, discussing recent projects. Selldorf Architects’ projects include designs for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, The Clark Art Institute, Neue Galerie New York, and Brown University. She was also recently selected for the expansion and renovation of the Frick Collection in New York City.

Performance Lab » Live Cinema by Brent Green and Sam Green

Live music meets stop-motion animation and documentary shorts in this wild, outdoor show! Self-taught animator Brent Green and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Green (The Weather Underground) burst the boundaries of cinema by pairing live music and narration with vignettes of their films. In this showcase of their best work, the filmmakers will be accompanied by Foley sound artist Kate Ryan and a band composed of Brendan Canty (Fugazi), James Canty (Nation of Ulysses), and Becky Foon (Silver Mt. Zion). The work was a 2016 New Waves Festival selection at the Brooklyn Academy of Arts. Sponsored by Paul M.
