January at Crystal Bridges includes: Farewell to Temporary Exhibits, Tween Night, and Concert by the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas

In January, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art invites visitors to warm up with the dance exhibition, The Art of American Dance, on view until January 16. January programs include a concert by the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA), the first-ever Tween Night, and Members can now get a behind-the-scenes peek with a new program series!

While school is out for the holidays, Crystal Bridges provides family-friendly activities each afternoon with Winter Break Wonders through Monday, January 2. Families can participate in artmaking, music, puppets, and dance while school is out. On December 31, families can enjoy the second annual Noon Year’s Eve Family Celebration and parents can ring in the New Year with NEW 365!

Members are invited to kick off 2017 with the new series, Member Scoop. On January 11 members can participate in a guided experience and view The Art of American Dance with Interpretations Manager Samantha Sigmon and Exhibitions Designer Jessi Mueller.

On January 21 the museum will host its first Tween Night! This free event is open to all area middle and junior high school students, and will feature a DJ, dancing, artmaking, and unique gallery experiences.

Crystal Bridges welcomes SoNA on January 27 for an intimate concert and conversation about classical music and American art between Paul Haas, SoNA Music Director and Conductor, and Mindy Besaw, Crystal Bridges Curator.

Figure Drawing

Whether you’ve always had a love for figure drawing or are trying it for the first time, you’ll enjoy an afternoon drawing with other adults at the Museum. A variety of drawing materials will be provided, and model poses will include both shorter warm-up poses and longer poses. Figure Drawing from the Nude Model

A variety of drawing materials will be provided, and model poses will include both shorter warm-up poses and longer poses. Participants must be 18 or older. (Note:  Figure Drawing sessions with a clothed model are offered each month, and are open to participants ages 14 and up. NEW Member Scoop » Dance and Design

We’re kicking off a new series just for Members! Member Scoops are an opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes knowledge from various Museum staff members on special topics. For this Scoop, Members are invited to a special opportunity to view The Art of American Dance through a new lens. Join Interpretations Manager Samantha Sigmon and Exhibitions Designer Jessi Mueller for a behind-the-scenes look at bringing an exhibition to life!

Hollywood Cinema Series » Shirley Temple and Bill “BoJangles” Robinson

Join us in the final days of The Art of American Dance exhibition for a screening of the 1935 movie The Little Colonel, which includes one of the most iconic scenes in American movie history: the staircase dance that Temple performed with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Member Last Look » The Art of American Dance

Members are invited to a Members-only Last Look for the temporary exhibition The Art of American Dance. This exhibition features 90 works, ranging from realistic to abstract, by iconic and wide-ranging artists. It examines dance-inspired paintings, prints, sculptures, and photographs from the 1830s to the recent past—from dance in Native American cultures to ballroom dancing, to Jitterbug, swing, modern dance, and others. Visitors can observe American history of race, gender, ethnicity, and class through the lenses of dance and the visual arts. FREE, register online or by calling the Member Priority Line.
