Aug 2, 2018 Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is winding down the summer with a full roster of events while preparing for new focus exhibitions, new fall Forest Concerts, and the last remaining weeks of the temporary exhibition, The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art. The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art features over 30 of O’Keeffe’s artworks alongside the work of 20 contemporary artists exploring similar themes. Visitors can take a Figure Drawing Class with a Beyond artist on August 8 and hear directly from two artists in the free Spotlight Talkon August 10, featuring Tshabalala Self and Molly Larkey. The Beyond will close on Monday, September 3, 2018. 21c Museum Hotel-Bentonville is partnering with Crystal Bridges to create the Bentonville and Beyond Weekend Getaway contest. The package includes a two-night stay at 21c Museum Hotel, complimentary tickets to The Beyond, a complimentary lunch at Eleven restaurant, and a 50 percent discount in the Museum Store. Contest participants can choose from two different weekends in August, and the package will accommodate up to two adults and two children. The contest will be open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7. Summer Fling, the biggest party of the summer, will take place on Saturday, August 18 on the North Lawn by the Fly’s Eye Dome. Austin-based musician Kalu and the Electric Joint will play the main stage. Classic party games such as cornhole, volleyball, and giant Jenga will be set up, and food trucks, a beer garden, and cash bar will be available throughout the evening. Two new focus exhibitions will open on September 1. In Amy Sherald, visitors will get to view a collection of paintings by the artist who created the official portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama. In Conversation: Will Wilson and Edward Curtis offers visitors a chance to see different depictions of Native Americans and to think critically about how they have been portrayed in photography over the past century. The popular Forest Concert Series continues through the summer with the final concert on August 11 featuring 1 Oz. Jig before kicking off the fall series on Saturday, September 8 with Northwest Arkansas favorite Opal Agafia & The Sweet Nothings and Brooklyn-based duo, The Bergamot. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is offered at all Distinguished Speaker Lectures and at the Collection Highlights tour on the third Saturday of each month. Fayetteville Roots Festival Concert » Shook Twins + The War and Treaty Saturday, August 25, 5 to 7:30 pm Enjoy an intimate concert in the Great Hall with the Shook Twins and The War and Treaty presented by Artinfusion and Fayetteville Roots Festival. The Shook Twins are an Indie folk-pop band hailing from Portland, Oregon.
