April at Crystal Bridges includes: Art Symposium, Multicultural Celebrations, Distinguished Speakers and Farewell to Border Cantos

In April, Crystal Bridges invites visitors to celebrate spring with a thought-provoking art symposium, distinguished speakers, multicultural celebrations, and the Border Cantos exhibition farewell.

Border Cantos: Sight & Sound Explorations from the Mexican-American Border is a unique collaboration between American photographer Richard Misrach and Mexican American sculptor/composer Guillermo Galindo. Members are invited to a Last Look at the exhibition before it closes on April 24.

Don’t miss the Crystal Bridges Art Symposium, Art in Conversation: Environment, Identity and Memory. The program includes an opening lecture on the evening of April 7 and a full day of interchange on April 8. Both evenings follow the conversation with cocktail receptions. The symposium provides the opportunity for visitors to explore issues of identity, race, class, gender and the environment through the lens of artworks.

Visitors are invited to celebrate diversity with Crystal Bridges and experience the many ways cultures express themselves through visual arts, performance, and music. College students are invited to the Multicultural Celebration on April 2. Dance the night away with the museum’s Latin Dance Night on April 14 and continue the party with our fourth annual El Dia de los Niños on April 23, featuring entertainment by and for children, including music, dance, artmaking, and more.

Calling all Fashionistas! Join the museum for our second event in the Distinguished Speaker Series, featuring two of New York City’s most prominent art-fashion mavens, friends and collaborators Lisa Perry and Yvonne Force Villareal on April 20.

Border Cantos Tour (February 18 through April 24)

Discover the Grounds » Shiitake Mushroom Log-Inoculation

Kick off this season of Discover the Grounds with a Shiitake mushroom log-inoculation workshop led by Sweden Creek Farm! Registration is limited, and participants will leave with their own mushroom log, as well as mushroom samples, recipe cards, and cooking suggestions. College Multicultural Celebration

Experience the cultural diversity of your campus and Northwest Arkansas at Crystal Bridges during this college student gathering. Crystal Bridges invites all students to join in the festivities and celebrate the many ways cultures around the world express themselves through visual arts, performance, and music. Presented in collaboration with International Students and Scholars and the Spring International Language Center at the University of Arkansas, The Global Communities Center at Northwest Arkansas Community College, and the International Office at John Brown University. Yoga and Art
Monday, April 3, 6 to 7 pm
Exercise your body and mind at Crystal Bridges with Yoga and Art! Join Lynn Hancock of Yoga Story in an uplifting group class that explores different facets of vinyasa as well as various disciplines of a yoga practice. Open to all levels. Figure Drawing
Monday, April 3 and April 17, 1 to 3 pm
Join us on the first and third Mondays of each month to draw from a clothed model. Whether you’ve always had a love for figure drawing or are trying it for the first time, you’ll enjoy an afternoon drawing with other adults at the Museum. Model poses will include both shorter warm-up poses, and longer poses. All materials are provided. $10 for non-members and $5 for Members.

Plein Air Master Class Series » Plein Air Oil Painting

Discover the beautiful landscape surrounding Crystal Bridges and many American artists who were inspired by their natural surroundings in this three-part master class on plein air oil painting with artist Peter Pohle. Each session will deepen your appreciation of artists working outdoors, with exercises in sketching and painting on the Museum grounds. All materials provided. What color is the sound of jazz? What kind of lines dance to Beethoven? John Brown University Associate Professor Neal Holland presents this digital photography workshop on social documentary. Creative Connections is a program for individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or related dementia and their care partners. Designer Lisa Perry is a style fixture who continually takes her appreciation of the design of the 60s to new heights. She blends her love of vintage fashion with her love of collecting pop art, including works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Yvonne Force Villareal is the co-founder of the Art Production Fund, an organization that commissions ambitious public art projects with the aim of reaching wider audiences and expanding awareness through contemporary art.
