Aug 31, 2021 Volunteer Spotlight Get to know a little more about this month’s Volunteer Spotlight: Bill Correll! Where are you from? I grew up in North Canton, Ohio, then on to Gambier, Minneapolis, and finally to Bella Vista in ’96. How did you end up in Northwest Arkansas? Work. I came from Minneapolis as an architect to join Walmart’s Real Estate/Design team. Okay, we might have preferred the weather here, too. What have you most enjoyed about being a volunteer at Crystal Bridges and/or the Momentary? I enjoy the people: the fellow volunteers, the staff, and the endlessly fascinating guests. This place brings out the best in people. Even me sometimes. What’s your favorite artwork or space at Crystal Bridges and/or the Momentary? Today, my favorite piece is the sculpture Horse Lover by Carol Bove, located in the North Forest. The title is a mystery, the form enigmatic. She stands aloof and kind of regal in a hidden clearing, rarely seen and totally underappreciated. Are those her flowing rusty robes? My favorite sculptures are slow to reveal themselves. I am patient. What do you do to relax? To relax, I hike and hit coffee shops with my wife, Margaret. And I scull. It’s great for wearing me out and easing the brain. What would an ideal day in Northwest Arkansas look like for you? Hike in the morning, paint in the afternoon, Crystal Bridges in the evening. What’s your secret super skill? I don’t know. No, that’s it, my skill. There’s a bunch that I don’t know, and fortunately, I love to learn. If you had three wishes, what would they be? Golf like Palmer, row like Jack Kelly, and paint like John Singer Sargent. My golf is beyond repair. So let’s be reasonable and just go for two out of three.
