Every day, we are given the opportunity to learn and expand our knowledge. To this end, the Library at Crystal Bridges can be a valuable resource. It is a place to gather answers for questions, to study, but also to relax. In particular, the periodicals section offers individuals a selection of magazines and newspapers that provide information and ignite one’s curiosity and interest. Here are three periodicals that are informative and enjoyable to read: The Art Newspaper The Art Newspaper – First printed in 1983, The Art Newspaper provides information on exhibits, the international art market, auctions, and the general state of the art world today. The newspaper puts art in the context of economics, politics, and current events. It helps the reader make connections between art and the world we live in. For those, like me, who do not have a background in art and would like to find reading material that connects the world of art with today’s current affairs, The Art Newspaper is worth a read. Art in America Art in America – Founded in 1913, the magazine provides a view of the contemporary art world in America. If you are interested in museums across the United States, as well as collections and exhibitions that have recently opened, Art in America is a wonderful resource. In addition, the magazine provides critical and thought-provoking articles that help readers understand artists, architecture, genres, and art movements. There is a wide range of topics included in each issue, helping readers understand the relevance of art in today’s world. The Archives of American Art Journal The Archives of American Art Journal – published since 1960, The Archives of American Art Journal is a resource for those that are interested in art history. As part of The Archives and the Smithsonian, this publication presents articles that offer a wealth of knowledge on the history of art and how it informs our lives today. There are two issues a year, and each one has a theme. The magazine is full of maps, old photographs, images of old documents, and various other archived material, taking the reader into a journey of the past. For individuals who have a love of history and know the importance of the past, the Journal is not only interesting to read, but also delightful to look at.
